West End Passage Project
The West End Passage Project defines a loop route in the West End of Charlotte that leverages existing pedestrian facilities along low-speed low-volume streets and bypasses barrier interstates to increase residents’ access to Uptown without needing a car. The loop route is comfortable enough for bikers and walkers of all ages and abilities, and connects West End neighborhoods via underpass roads, historic cemeteries, and existing greenways. This project includes a series of gateway projects along the proposed route that transform the dreary underpasses that bisect West End neighborhoods into grand entrances that celebrate community identity and culture. The gateways function as vibrant entrances to the neighborhood and serve as wayfinding along the route for bikers and walkers.
