Reclaim CLT
Litter management and especially plastic waste mitigation starts at the source, in the heart of our urban communities. This project will create a sculpture piece to be placed along Charlotte area greenways that would turn litter pickup into a game. The object is to fill the sculpture as quickly as possible, by collecting litter along the path, nearby streams, and surrounding neighborhoods, one individual piece and person at a time. Additionally, there will be signage along the path directing users to sculpture as well as the nearest existing trash receptacles, and a colorful redesign of plain, existing trash receptacles to make them more obvious and draw in users. Finally, I will incorporate a crowd sourcing indicator of full trash receptacles, where pathway users can scan a receptacle and it will alert maintenance staff of the need to remove the trash.
