Weston Hamilton Stroud

2020 Champions   |   Macon, GA

My name is Weston Stroud. I am 25 years old and I have lived in Macon for 16 years. My family moved from Atlanta when I was a child, and as an adult, I chose to live in Macon after I graduated from State University of New York College of Environmental Science & Forestry, where I studied environmental policy/planning and urban design. I am the Transit Planner for the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority and I also serve as a Board Member for Bike Walk Macon, The Douglass Theatre, and the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity.

Roxy Park

My project will revitalize an area around what used to be one of Macon’s three black theatres called the Roxy Theatre, through tactical urbanism, place making, and intentional programming. The end goal of this project is to create a food park for food trucks as well as meet the needs of the current surrounding businesses and institutions. There is presently no designated area in Macon to host food trucks without paying exorbitant prices for a permit. This hurdle stifles small businesses. Creating a pedestrian plaza that hosts food trucks will provide new opportunities and activate an historic community downtown.
